The extra curricular programme includes a range of daily sports and morning and evening clubs and activities, designed to foster team spirit and the confidence to integrate with others when students move on from Bishopstrow. Some of the clubs include Crazy Scientist Club, zumba, chess, debating, astronomy, bird watching, army skills, darts, board games, craft, singing and art.
Senior College students may join The Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award Scheme.
Weekend activities include fun swimming, country walks, outdoor cooking and survival simulation games.
The College is able to arrange other activities such as horse riding, individual music lessons and golf on request, for an additional charge. Students may join musical groups (choir and orchestra) at Warminster School.
Weekend Trips & Excursions
As well as our on-site activities, we organise a stimulating and varied programme of fully-supervised trips at weekends. Some allow students to discover places of cultural, geographical and historical interest; others encourage students to sample the great outdoors, through walking, hiking, cycling and other physical pursuits.
Sightseeing, cultural visits and even shopping provide contexts within which speaking and listening skills are put to the test; they are also great fun and provide memories to last a lifetime.
Trips and excursions may include London museums and art galleries, cycling and orienteering in forests, outdoor activity centres, trips to the beach and coastal walking, visits to neighbouring towns and cities, such as London, Bath, Bristol, Salisbury and Oxford.
On a Saturday afternoon students aged over 12 years can go into Warminster in groups, whilst under 12s are accompanied by our boarding staff. Sunday trips include visits to London, Oxford, Cardiff, or Bristol. We also visit local attractions such as Stonehenge and provide a balance of outdoor adventure, coastal walks, days at the beach and visits to Thorpe Park.
Please view our calendar for current weekend activities and events.
Sport at Bishopstrow
Bishopstrow College provides students with a distinct learning opportunity to develop in a variety of traditional English sports, up to 6 times a week, within an educational setting. Teaching staff are highly qualified individuals with in-depth knowledge across a number of sports and students participate in rugby, football, cricket, netball, hockey, lacrosse, rounders, basketball, badminton and handball. The winter and summer sports programme is designed to foster team spirit and the confidence to integrate with others when students move on from Bishopstrow.
Students participate in inter-house competitions and competitive fixtures against external independent schools and colleges.
Sport is timetabled every day as well as activities at the weekend.
Like most British independent schools, we have a House system, with students competing in multinational teams for trophies in debating, drama and sports.
