Bishopstrow’s 5 week Academic Summer Programme offers intensive study of English language and a range of academic subjects from the British National Curriculum. The Programme combines English learning with academic subjects, including Mathematics, Science and History. The core English language and academic programme is complemented by a varied programme of creative activities, sports, social programme and excursions to ensure that students have a stimulating and rewarding summer experience. Students make real progress with their English, whilst also experiencing the globally recognised British curriculum and British culture.
The timetable comprises 25 hours of academic tuition and 5 hours of supervised prep for Junior and Middle College students and 30 hours of academic tuition and 7.5 hours of supervised prep for Senior College students. Students also benefit from weekly tutorials.
The Programme includes a ‘Study Skills’ module for senior students (aged 14-16 years), with an upper intermediate level of English (Level B2 on the Common European Framework). ‘Study Skills’ is designed to provide an excellent preparation for international students before they commence their GCSE, A Level studies or the IB Diploma Programme at a mainstream school.
The Study Skills timetable will comprise 30 hours of academic tuition and 7.5 hours of supervised prep. Students will study the following subjects: English, Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Humanities and Art. Students also benefit from weekly tutorials.
Students will develop skills in academic English at IELTS Level 5.5 to 6.5, with a focus on applying reading, writing, speaking and listening techniques to the study of a range of subjects at an advanced level. Students will learn how to transfer their academic language skills to the study of three fields of Science, Mathematics, and Humanities subjects. Students will also be given the opportunity to enhance their creative and reflective skills during weekly art sessions.
