Junior College, Middle College and Pre-IGCSE/IGCSE Programmes
On our English language and academic pathway programmes, students study 12-13 hours of English language in order to ensure they reach the levels required for study at their appropriate age group. At all levels, the English programme is broken down to help students develop expertise in the use of the language for everyday life and for their academic career as follows:
- Skills for Life
- Drama and Literature
- English Support for Subject classes
- Academic English (ESOL)
The remainder of the students’ timetable consists of study in a range of subjects from Key Stage 2 to IGCSE level taught by teachers who are experienced in their own field of study, as well as in catering for the specific needs of international students.
1 Year IGCSE Programme
The 1 Year IGCSE Programme offers a range of subjects leading to up to 8 IGCSE examinations and is an excellent preparation for international students who wish to enter UK schools and colleges at sixth form level, to study A Levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBD). The Programme is a challenging academic course in which students study towards IGCSE qualifications in up to 8 subjects following the Cambridge International Education syllabi. The Programme includes 30 hours of academic tuition and 7.5 hours of supervised prep.
As part of the Programme, students can also pursue the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award Scheme, which is excellent preparation for the Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) ‘core’ component of the IBD. To compliment their studies, students also take part in the additional subjects of Global Perspectives and PSHE to ensure they have a well-rounded education.
Academic Summer Programme
Bishopstrow’s 5 week Academic Summer Programme offers intensive study of English language and a range of academic subjects from the British National Curriculum. The Programme combines English learning with academic subjects, including Mathematics, Science and History. The core English language and academic programme is complemented by a varied programme of creative activities, sports, social programme and excursions to ensure that students have a stimulating and rewarding summer experience. Students make real progress with their English, whilst also experiencing the globally recognised British curriculum and British culture.
The timetable comprises 25 hours of academic tuition and 5 hours of supervised prep for Lower and Middle College students and 30 hours of academic tuition and 7.5 hours of supervised prep for Upper College students. Students also benefit from weekly tutorials.
In order to compliment the main curriculum, Bishopstrow College is also able to offer individual tuition in a range of subjects and skills. Students can choose to study another language or receive extra support in Mathematics, English or other curriculum subjects.
